Bochnowski Family Veteran Fellowship Program (Hoover Institution, Stanford)

Year-long, non-residential policy fellowship at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, launched in fall 2021 and directed under Condoleezza Rice, for ten mid-career military veterans annually who are established in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Unlike leadership programs that train those who serve veterans, this one develops veterans themselves as policy problem-solvers: fellows leverage Hoover and Stanford scholars and networks, participate in up to six in-person engagements plus virtual sessions, and produce a capstone project delivering actionable solutions to a policy challenge in their own community — spanning government, business, workforce, schools, public health, and public safety. Veterans from all branches who served on active duty within the last 25 years are eligible. Selection weighs demonstrated leadership, professional success, and the viability of the proposed capstone. Free to fellows; competitive annual application, typically due mid-August. Included as infrastructure — it builds veteran policy leadership capacity rather than delivering direct services.
