National American Indian Veterans (NAIV)

The only congressionally chartered VSO dedicated solely to Native American veterans — chartered in the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act, the first new congressional charter granted to any veterans organization in 15 years, and the first ever for a Native American veterans group. Founded 2004 on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Reservation in response to a Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee hearing. 14 regional offices serving 140,000+ Native American veterans nationwide. Works with Tribal Veterans Service Officers on benefits claims, advocates before Congress, and will be VA-accredited for claims representation under the charter. Native Americans serve at five times the national average — the charter gives NAIV the platform to match that service.
