Origin & mission
Pat Tillman walked away from an NFL contract with the Arizona Cardinals after 9/11 to serve as an Army Ranger. He was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004. His widow Marie founded the Pat Tillman Foundation in his honor to identify and support veterans and military spouses who share his values of service, leadership, and intellectual courage. Tillman Scholars are chosen not for financial need but for their potential to impact the world.
