Yellow Ribbon Program (VA)

Bridges the tuition gap when Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits don't fully cover private school or out-of-state tuition — one of the most underused education benefits because veterans don't know their school participates. How it works: the school voluntarily waives a portion of excess tuition and VA matches dollar-for-dollar, often reducing out-of-pocket cost to zero. GI Bill caps private school payments at ~$29,920/yr (2025-26); Yellow Ribbon covers the rest at participating schools. Eligibility requires 100% Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit level (36+ months post-9/11 service, Purple Heart recipients, 30+ days with service-connected disability discharge, or active duty with 100% eligibility).
