Military Veterans in Journalism (MVJ)

National professional association for military veterans who are working or aspiring journalists, dedicated to building community, advancing veterans' media careers, and diversifying newsrooms through the hiring and promotion of veterans. Grown to more than 1,300 members nationwide. Runs paid fellowships and internships placing veterans in real newsrooms — collaborations have included The Washington Post summer internship, CUNY Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism fellowships, Gannett, and Resolve Philly — plus mentorship webinars, an annual conference, a job board, and a career fair. Also operates an Information Integrity Project countering disinformation and violent-extremist recruitment aimed at military and veteran communities, partnering with the Poynter Institute and PolitiFact. Backed by major journalism and veteran funders including the Knight, MacArthur, and Craig Newmark foundations, NBCUniversal, and DAV. A proud member of the Institute for Nonprofit News.
