DoD Warrior Games
Serves: Nationwide
Multi-sport event for wounded, injured, or ill service members and veterans, organized by the U.S. Department of Defense and held annually since 2010 (paused only for the 2020-2021 pandemic). Designed to enhance recovery journeys outside traditional therapy settings by bringing the military community together for recovery in real time; a recent Games featured roughly 175 athletes competing across 11 adaptive sports over nine days. The event grew directly out of the Ride 2 Recovery 2009 Texas Challenge and in turn helped inspire the international Invictus Games. Athletes represent the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Special Operations Command, alongside international partner teams. A DoD program rather than an org a veteran joins directly — participation flows through each service's Warrior Care program.
