Heroes on the Water

Founded in 2007 — 60,000+ veterans and first responders impacted through free kayak fishing programs that combine the physical, occupational, and mental therapy of being on the water. Two program arms: Volunteer-Led Chapters (community-based kayak fishing nationwide, led by trained volunteers) and Therapeutic Programs (partnered directly with VA Medical Centers and DoD facilities, coordinated with certified recreational therapists). All equipment provided at no cost. Outcomes study commissioned from Texas State University confirms significant improvements in mental health, stress reduction, and well-being. No prior kayak or fishing experience required. Adaptive to disabilities.
