The nation's largest community-based adaptive sports organization, formed in 2020 by the merger of Disabled Sports USA (founded 1956 by Vietnam veterans) and Adaptive Sports USA (1967) — both originally created by military veterans. Operates a network of more than 200 chapters across 43 states offering over 70 adaptive sports, from alpine and Nordic skiing to sled hockey, wheelchair basketball, cycling, climbing, and track and field, with a goal of being locally available to 90 percent of the U.S. population by 2028. Its Move United Warfighters program is the largest nonprofit provider of adaptive sports to injured veterans, delivering free programming to all service members and veterans with a permanent physical disability; since its founding by members of the 10th Mountain Division to serve injured Vietnam veterans it has served more than 21,556 wounded warriors and family members at no cost. Recognized by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and administers VA Adaptive Sports Grant funding to member organizations nationwide.
