National Veterans Foundation (Lifeline for Vets)

The nation's first vet-to-vet toll-free crisis and resource hotline — founded in 1985 by Shad Meshad, who co-created the VA's Vet Center program. The Lifeline for Vets (888-777-4443) connects veterans with trained veteran counselors who navigate a comprehensive database of local, national, and government resources covering PTSD, medical, housing, employment, legal aid, and suicide intervention. Has helped over 500,000 veterans since 1985. Note: currently operates 9AM–5PM PST Mon–Fri; for 24/7 crisis support call 988 → press 1.
